Few foods are more useful than the humble apple, the star product of the coldest seasons of the year. At Conasi, we love to give prominence to traditional ingredients, stews, good eating and seasonal ingredients . For this reason, on the blog we have several cakes with our beloved apple: the chocolate apple cake or the upturned apple cake, For example. On this occasion, we discovered apple strudel , a traditional dessert from Austria and southern Germany, delicate and elegant, which consists of a thin and crispy dough, in the shape of a roll, that surrounds a filling of apples, sugar, cinnamon and breadcrumbs (in our version we opt for oat flakes ). In the traditional recipe, the dough is made with brick or filo dough, although you can also find options with puff pastry.

Cut the apples into fine cubes or grate them and place them in a bowl.
Add the oat flakes , coconut sugar , cinnamon and lemon juice, mix everything well and set aside. For the dough, pour the vegetable drink and melted coconut oil into a bowl. Add the flammkuchen flour mixture and vinegar and knead lightly until it forms a ball. Spread the dough on lightly floured baking paper and, using a rolling pin , roll it out until it is the size of a baking sheet. Place the strudel filling in the center of the dough, lengthwise, leaving a good space on the sides to close it. Close the filling as if it were a package: first, fold the short sides and then the long sides of the dough on top of the filling. Do not try to roll it on itself, because it will fall apart. Turn the strudel over, carefully and with the help of the baking paper itself, so that the seam is facing down. Place the entire set (strudel + paper) on a baking sheet. Brush with a little vegetable drink. Bake in the middle of the preheated oven for about 40 minutes. If desired, you can sprinkle the apple strudel with a little icing coconut sugar before serving. GRADES We recommend serving the strudel freshly made and still hot, with vanilla ice cream , whipped coconut cream, vegetable yogurt or vanilla cream . If you want a sweeter and more aromatic touch, add 50 g of raisins to the filling mixture. It is also often enriched with nuts, rum or other flavorings.
